This template works in a similar way to Template:Forecast/US except a bit of extra research using is needed to use this template by using bom.gov.au. It only works for articles about Australia, and Australia's Antarctic claims. Do not attempt to use it on an article about New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or any other non-Australian destination – it will not work.
To use this template, there are three parameters to use. The first one is the name of the location, the second is the place name, and the third is the jurisdiction code. As an example, to get http://www.bom.gov.au/nt/forecasts/ubirr.shtml in Ubirr in Kakadu National Park, you will need to use the following code: {{Forecast/AU|Ubirr, Kakadu National Park|ubirr|nt}}
and it produces what you see on the right.
The first parameter is easy to use and you can type any character and it should come up (except |
but that doesn't work on any template). So entering Ubirr
and Ubirr, Kakadu National Park
both work and are both completely fine.
The second parameter is the location name used on the Bureau of Meteorology's url. You will need to find the name of it here. If the name of the url is more than one word such as Mount Field as seen in http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/forecasts/mount-field.shtml, you will need to enter mount-field
, not mount field, mountfield or Mount-Field – these will break the links. For the Ubirr example, all you simply need to do is to enter ubirr
, decapitalized, and it will work.
The third parameter is the name of the relevant jurisdiction. Do not capitalize it – it will not work. They include as follows:
- Australian Capital Territory – act
- New South Wales – nsw
- Northern Territory – nt
- Queensland – qld
- South Australia – sa
- Tasmania – tas
- Victoria – vic
- Western Australia – wa
- Australian Antarctic Territory – ant
For the Ubirr example, as it is in the Northern Territory, it uses nt
for the third parameter.
