The template untilbox, doesn't have much use on the mainspace, but has a lot of use for behind the scene issues. There's many reasons why someone would want to put this template, but is mainly designed for user and user talk pages.
Here's how it works:

The |date variable is flexible, and is designed to accept any form of date, and does not have to be ISO-639 standard. It will produce what you have entered.
The text variable will accept anything, so anything you type will be added.
